The next steps for the expansion of the digital future in Schwalbach am Taunus are made
Demand and capacities for data centers continue to grow as a result of ongoing digitalization. At the same time, it is important to build and operate them in a way that conserves resources. For this reason, an ultra-modern and energetically future-oriented data center is being built in Schwalbach am Taunus, not far from the main Internet node DE-CIX.
The green data center with an electrical connected load of 25 MVA impresses with an exceptionally low energy efficiency value, a PUE value of 1.25. For the implementation, individual concepts were developed to design the data center in an ecologically compatible manner and to operate it in an energy-saving way. For example, the waste heat generated by IT components and cooling equipment is to be used to generate heat. The data center, which is powered by green electricity, will also be equipped with solar panels on the facade and other parts of the site for fossil-free power generation. In cooperation with the city of Schwalbach am Taunus, 12 charging stations for electric cars will also find their place in the close vicinity of the data center for sustainable mobility in the region. A wooden facade as well as further greened areas of the facade provide additional, natural cooling and harmonious integration into the landscape. The Schwalbach site was a convincing choice for locating the data center with an attractive plot of land and the necessary infrastructure already in place.
"We are delighted to be able to realize this showcase project for our client DATA CASTLE. This ultra-modern, smart and sustainably designed data center is an investment in the future and an important milestone for the region," says Ralf Siefen, founder and CEO of Data Center Group.
The completion of the first construction phase and the move-in of the customers according to the colocation approach of several users, who rent the space of the data center and at the same time its energy and data infrastructure, is scheduled for mid-2025. Data Center Group is implementing the project as general contractor for its client DATA CASTLE: The German company, headquartered near Munich, plans, builds and operates sustainable colocation and hyperscale data centers at strategically important locations in Germany.
The data center complies with the latest standards and strict criteria according to DIN EN 50600 (VK 3), Uptime Institute (Tier III) and LEED certifications in order to meet customer requirements for future-proof and highly available IT infrastructures.
Dr. Christopher Stief, Co-Founder and CEO of DATA CASTLE, summarizes the project: "Our project, in collaboration with the Data Center Group, sets new standards in the resource-efficient construction and operation of data centers. Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important for customers. We are in promising negotiations with numerous national as well as international interested parties."
The land has already been cleared in preparation for the construction work. Currently, the sand lizards living on the site are being relocated so that they can find a new home in a suitable replacement habitat until the construction work begins. An official groundbreaking ceremony will mark the start of construction work as early as this fall.
Once completed, the Green Data Center will offer customers access to large cloud platforms and the greatest possible flexibility for different requirements. Various national and international carriers will ensure highly available network connections. The data center is thus another important building block in the construction of the Green Data Center platform, which envisages further data centers in and around major cities.
